  • Fertilise to maximise in a sustainable way 23/04/25

    Date published: 23 April 2025

The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) is organising on farm events to discuss the sustainable use of nutrients on farm to enhance grass growth potential.

CAFRE Beef and Sheep Adviser Gareth Beacom pictured with host farmers David and Neil Brown discussing preparations for the Fertilise to Maximise event.

CAFRE Beef and Sheep Advisers will provide practical advice on the key steps to managing nutrients on farm. Learn how to use your soil analysis report to determine crop requirements and utilise the value of organic manures to reduce your fertiliser bill.

These informative and practical events will be hosted across Northern Ireland to allow as many farmers as possible to attend. Host farmers will provide an overview of their farm business and the steps that they take to ensure that they make best use of nutrients produced on farm.

David and Neil Brown, 68 Drumhack Road, Macken, BT92 3DT welcome farmers from Co. Fermanagh and the surrounding areas on Monday 28April at 7.30pm. Former UFU President, David and his son Neil run a spring and autumn calving herd that uses proven Simmental and Limousin genetics through the exclusive use of AI.  Grassland management, making high quality silage and using the nutrients produced on farm effectively are a priority within their system.

Booking is not required, and everyone is very welcome to join us to gain practical advice on the key steps to managing nutrients on your farm.
