New Online Certificate of Higher Education in Equine Science and Management from CAFRE

The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) is delighted to launch the Certificate of Higher Education in Equine Science and Management, validated by Ulster University, taught exclusively online.
The course will start in September 2022 and students can access the course from anywhere in the world. This will enable students to study alongside any work, professional and personal commitments.
This course seeks to provide those seeking employment or staff currently working in the equine sector with the opportunity to gain a recognised higher level qualification. Developed in consultation with the equine industry the course provides up to date theories and principles relevant to equine science and business management practices.
The course will run over two years. In the first year compulsory modules are: Equine Anatomy and Physiology; Principles of Equine Nutrition: and Equine Health and Welfare. During the second year, students will study one compulsory module Introduction to Equine Business Management and two optional units. The optional modules are Equine Exercise Physiology and Training OR Principles of Thoroughbred Training and Equine Reproduction and Stud Practices OR Equine Reproduction and Thoroughbred Stud Practices to enable students to follow a Thoroughbred or Sport Horse pathway.
Programme attendance requirements
Students will attend online classes (remotely) the majority of which will be pre-recorded. Regular live tutorials will also take place. Students will be required to complete coursework and online exams throughout the course. A commitment of approximately 6 hours on average per week is expected with additional independent study.
Fees and course entry requirements
Tuition fees for 2022 entry are provisionally set at £600 per year and a total of £1,200 for the course, subject to change. Students should normally have attained two Grade Ds or above at A-Level, equivalent to 48 UCAS tariff points at A2 Level, plus three GCSE subjects at Grade C including English Language and Mathematics. For those applying with Irish Leaving Certificate qualifications please refer to the Tariff Tables, Section 3 – International Qualifications where equivalent qualifications are listed in alphabetical order.
