This site is of interest because of the wide range of grassland types that it supports. It comprises of a block of hay-meadows of varied aspect and wetness. Jointed rush is usually dominant, with grasses such as sweet vernal grass, quaking grass, red fescue and heath grass generally receiving low cover values. Sedges are invariably abundant especially on flushed slopes and include Carex pulicaris, Carex panicea, Carex flacca and Carex hostiana.

The most distinctive feature of these grassland is the abundance of forbs such as meadow thistle, tormentil, devil's-bit-scabious and bugle.

The fields in the south west are particularly noteworthy in this respect: Meadow thistle is dominant over large areas and there is an abundance of orchids including lesser butterfly orchid and common twayblade.
Several rare or local vascular plants occur, including bog pimpernel, and the nationally rare blue eyed grass.
