Cervids for Intra-Community trade to EU Member States

These documents provide useful advice and guidance in relation to the export of cervids to the EU for breeding and production or for slaughter and have been updated to take account of the Animal Health Law Regulation for EU Trade, which came into effect 11 October 2021.
Bluetongue:
Exports:
- Exports to Ireland of animals for breeding and production (including fattening) is suspended indefinitely
- Exports for breeding & production to other EU member States MAY be possible if the Member State is not BT Free and allows derogations from BT requirements. Published derogations can be viewed here Bluetongue - Food Safety - European Commission Please check well in advance of the export and if unsure check with us by e-mailing daeratradeexports@daera-ni.gov.uk
- Advice regarding completion of the EHC for Member States with available derogations will be provided to the certifying vet on a case-by-case basis. Please contact daeratradeexports@daera-ni.gov.uk well in advance of the anticipated date of export.
Direct Slaughter:
Exports to EU member States for direct slaughter are permitted so long as they come from establishments in which infection with bluetongue virus (serotypes 1-24) has not been reported during the last 30 days prior to the date of departure of the consignment. 48-hours prenotification must be given.
Exports to Ireland:
DAFM have advised that, as a result of the loss of Northern Ireland’s Bluetongue Free status they require pre-notification of all movements of cattle and sheep from Northern Ireland going for direct slaughter in Ireland.
As soon as you are aware of a request to move animals to direct slaughter, please e-mail DAFM using the e-mail address provided below. Please include the following information.
- The name of the exporter
- The animal group number of the premises of origin
- The address of the premises of origin
- The name and address of the premises of destination
- Species and number of animals travelling
- The certificate number if known.
These details should be e-mailed to NDCCBTV@agriculture.gov.ie as soon as they are available.
Exports to other Member States: The exporter should advise the recipient a minimum of 48 hours in advance of the export.
