The first Northern Ireland Elasmobranch Conservation Strategy sets out a coordinated approach to improve the conservation status of our sharks, skates and rays. With many elasmobranch species facing pressures from bycatch, habitat degradation, climate change and gaps in our understanding of their populations and movements, targeted action is needed. This strategy aims to improve understanding, reduce threats, strengthen conservation measures and support the long-term recovery of elasmobranch populations, helping to build healthier and more resilient marine ecosystems for the future.
