The Northern Ireland Native Woodland Group (NINWG)was created to ensure that activities related to the implementation of native woodland habitat action plans are well co-ordinated and supported. Native woodland habitat action plans encourage the conservation of ancient woodland sites and the management of broadleaved woodland to enhance biodiversity. The most important broadleaved woodland habitats are upland oak woodland, upland mixed ash woodland, wet woodlands and lowland woodland pasture and parkland.

NINWG has representation from Central Government, Local Government, nature conservation groups and the forestry industry, and meets annually.
