The Northern Ireland Countryside Survey (NICS2000) provides an estimate of land cover in the landscape and what changes have occurred since the baseline NICS. The primary land cover types and field boundary types have been aggregated in Broad Habitats.

The University of Sheffield undertook a survey of the Down and Armagh fens under contract to Environment and Heritage Service, in 1994. The survey produced a list of 30 fen sites which were considered to be of most conservation interest.
