    This section of our website provides useful information and guidance in relation to sheep and goats being exported for breeding, production or slaughter from Northern Ireland to Great Britain or EU Member States.

    Export certification for sheep & goats to GB (England, Scotland & Wales)

    • Exports to England and Wales from all of Northern Ireland are permitted as per usual pre-Bluetongue requirements
    • Exports to Scotland from all of Northern Ireland require additional Bluetongue attestations - information available here. 

    Sheep & Goats being exported for breeding or production from Northern Ireland to Great Britain must be accompanied by an export health certificate. Within this category, there are 2 possible scenarios covered. Please click on each scenario for the relevant information and forms:

    • breeding/production sheep & goats exported directly from their premises of origin
    • breeding/production sheep & goats exported via an export assembly centre

    Sheep & Goats being exported for slaughter from Northern Ireland to Great Britain must be accompanied by an export health certificate. Within this category, there are 2 possible scenarios covered. Please click on each scenario for the relevant information and forms:

    • slaughter sheep & goats exported directly from their premises of origin
    • slaughter sheep & goats exported via an export assembly centre

    Export certification for breeding sheep & goats to EU Member States

    Ireland have published a derogation which permits movement for Breeding and Production without additional Bluetongue requirements so long as NI only has BTV3.

    Movements to other Member States may be possible if the Member State is not Bluetongue Free and a derogation is available.

    • breeding sheep & goats exporting directly from a premises of origin
    • breeding sheep & goats export via an EU approved export assembly centre (including special sheep sales)

    If using genotyping to fulfil Scrapie requirements for sheep exports, only sheep with the genotype ARR/ARR are eligible for export. No other genotype results will be accepted.

    Export certification for slaughter sheep & goats to EU Member States

    Exports may continue to all Member States. 48-hour pre-notification is required.

    Export certification for breeding / production sheep & goats to Isle of Man

    Sheep & Goats being exported for breeding or production from Northern Ireland to Isle of Man must be accompanied by an export health certificate (EHC).

    The EHC application process is completed using DAERA Export Certification System (DECS).
