Everyone needs to consider how their behaviour impacts on the water environment, when working with septic tanks. We all have a part to play in this long-term effort to positively contribute to a sustained improvement in the status of our water bodies.

Do you have a septic tank at home? You can reduce the impact of your septic tank on water quality by a few easy steps:

    • Only flush suitable materials in your domestic wastewater system.
    • Use dishwasher detergents that are deemed to be eco-friendly.
    • Check if your septic tank is operating properly:
      • Where your septic tank discharges, check for sewage smells and signs of white scum/foam/pools of water where the sewage is released.
      • Get your septic tank emptied on a regular basis.
      • Get your septic tank inspected for leaks of effluent or water entering from the surface by a septic service professional.

Did you know you can get your septic tank emptied each year for free?
