- Project Description: The proposed repair works to Connswater Bridge will comprise phased, sectional repairs to the existing reinforced concrete beams, piers, bracing elements, original deck soffit and underside of the spine beam, together with protective coatings, cathodic protection and local strengthening where required, whilst maintaining bridge operation and allowing for tidal constraints. Deteriorated or contaminated concrete will be removed selectively, typically by hydro-demolition to minimise vibration and avoid damage to sound concrete, with hand-held breakout methods used locally where proximity to sensitive structural elements requires greater control. Access will be achieved from suspended or encapsulated scaffold systems and, where required for over-water operations, supported by pontoon/safety boat arrangements.
