The European Commission scheme opened on 4 January 2016 and provided support for storage costs of certain cuts for between 90 and 150 days. PSA was introduced to ease the pressure on the EU pig meat market. Since the scheme opened the Commission have been monitoring the quantities entered into the scheme against market prices. This monitoring has provided the Commission with sufficient reassurance that the scheme has served its purpose.

    Scheme update

The Commission have subsequently introduced a number of measures as a result of this monitoring period:

    • the Commission suspended the scheme from 27 January to 2 February 2016 in accordance with Commission Regulation (EC) No 85/2016
    • the scheme has subsequently been withdrawn from 3 February 2016. No further applications can be submitted

Full details of the scheme can be found on the RPA’s website, or by telephoning 0191 226 5171.
