  • Public Body Climate Change Mitigation Reporting

    Topics:
    • Climate Change

    This page is to assist public bodies who are required to report under The Climate Change (Reporting Bodies) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2024, and those who wish to voluntarily report.

    It provides information on climate change mitigation reporting, including a link to DAERA's online reporting portal along with its associated guidance and other supporting documentation.

    Climate Change Mitigation Reports

    Under the Regulations, climate change mitigation reports are required and submitted to DAERA on a 3-yearly basis.

    For this first reporting round, a public body’s mitigation report will:

    • set the baseline year for greenhouse gas emissions* (GHG) covering the financial year beginning 1st April 2024 and ending 31st March 2025;
    • contain the amounts and sources of GHG emissions for that financial year; and
    • contain the proposals and policies for reducing emissions in the exercise of its functions and the timescales for implementation.

    * Reporting on scope 1 and scope 2 emissions is required. Reporting on scope 3 emissions is voluntary, but it is encouraged.

    Deadline for Submission

    The first mitigation reports are due to be submitted to DAERA by 31st October 2025.

    Access to the Reporting Portal

    The department has developed a reporting portal for public bodies to assist them in meeting their mitigation reporting duties.

    The reporting portal is the format by which the public bodies must submit their report to DAERA and it can be accessed through the following weblink:
