    Disease control zones licencing

    Movements into, out of, or within disease control zones must be licensed.

    Licence Matrix

    A matrix of permitted moves will be available at the link below when disease control zones are established. Licence Matrix Permitted Moves document.

    General Licence

    Certain moves will be permitted under General Licence when disease control zones are established.  These licences will be available at the following link.

    Specific Licence

    When disease control zones are established certain moves will be permitted under a specific licence issued by the Department which must be applied for at least 48 hours in advance of any planned move.

    General licence for bird gatherings

    The Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) in force across Northern Ireland and the ban on poultry gatherings will be lifted at 00:01 on Friday 15 May 2026.

    All poultry and bird gatherings will be permitted from Friday 15 May 2026, provided organisers comply with the provisions of the updated General Licence for bird gatherings.

    Disease Control Zones

    In the event of suspicion or confirmation of avian influenza, disease control zones may be established.  Full details of the scope and measures required within all established zones are available to view on the Disease Control Zone Declarations page. 

    Maps detailing all established zones will also be available at the Avian Influenza Map Viewer | Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (daera-ni.gov.uk).
