  • How to apply for a Bovine Animal Group Number (AGN) commonly known as a herd number.

    If you intend to keep Cattle you will require an AGN.
    Prior to applying for an AGN, you need to be registered as a business with DAERA. You will need a Business ID (BID) and Customer ID (CID). There are different types of Business ID available that accommodate all kinds of establishments including hobby establishments.

    Having obtained the BID and CID, you can apply for an AGN by completing the following form and sending it to your local (DDO).

    AGN application form– This form can be completed on your device but needs to be printed and signed before returning to your local DDO.

    Alternatively a paper copy of the application form can be obtained from your local (DDO).
    Upon receipt of the application DAERA will arrange an inspection to determine if an AGN can be issued. You will receive in writing the outcome of the inspection.
