This water is known for its large brown trout and is highly productive. In the early spring, there are large hatches of buzzers (chironomids) that the trout feed on extensively. In the later part of the season, there are good hatches of sedge (caddis) on warm summer evenings. It is important to note that this is a public water supply, so visitors should take care not to pollute it.

This water is located in a forest setting and is the largest of the Woodburn waters. It is home to some large trout, and wading is allowed. However, visitors must be careful if wading when the water is at high levels. Anglers must enter using the official entrances and should not trespass on adjoining lands or obstruct roads or gate entrances with parked cars.
